Models.com Model Style Interview with Fei Fei Sun

Full Interview can be seen at models.com

Jeans - Zara, Coat -Burberry, Bag – Proenza Schouler:

With her effervescent personality and one of a kind look, Fei Fei Sun has become one of the most coveted girls of the moment. Her face can be seen in the pages of fashion bibles like Vogue Italia, V and i-D, but when she isn’t bringing designer creations to life, Fei Fei is just a normal girl who loves shopping, traveling and learning more about her new hometown.

MDC: I know you’ve been in New York for 6 months, how has it been for you so far?:

Fei Fei: Amazing! New York is a very crazy city and a new home for me. This is my first time in New York, and everything for me is new. I’m still learning everything, like how to go to the subways and supermarkets, my new agency here. When I’m working, I’m meeting new friends, and learning about the new everything with New York, good shops and good restaurants, and which food is New York people’s favorite. I’m learning that the New York City feeling is a lot like Shanghai, very young.

MDC: What do you like when you’re shopping?

Fei Fei: I like simple clothes in simple colors; white, black, with just a little color here and there. I like going to Topshop, H+M, Zara because it is nice and cheap, and sometimes Barneys for really nice bags and nice shoes. I like clothes with clean shapes. It is fun going to vintage shops with my friends, but I feel like know very little, I’m still learning about fashion.

MDC: Have you had any really fun experiences modeling recently?

Fei Fei: Modeling for me is such a crazy thing. In New York, everyday I can feel new things coming into my life. I really enjoying working with many different teams, with make up and hair, stylists, and photographers. The people are always very nice and friendly and funny. They’re always full of great ideas. My favorite thing has been changing my eyebrow color and playing with different eyeshadow colors, especially greens, yellows, and other bright colors. I really like the feeling of spring.

Models.com Top 10 Newcomer: Britt Maren

As seen on models.com:

Britt Maren Photographed exclusively for models.com by Hugh Lippe

Well what a surprise! New York Fashion week actually emitted a clear, bonafide, distinct first season girl who now has every power editor, stylist and designer standing at attention. The girl in question? Women’s new face Britt who in the tradition forged by agency mate Mirte, proved that Girl 1 at Alexander Wang, especially when you are an unknown , can certainly trigger a lot of traction. That traction proved itself when Britt walked Marc Collection the following Monday and then Rodarte, Michael Kors and Donna Karan during the ensuing week. That triggered a massive wave wave of requests for the London, Milan and Paris shows. Rest assured that this girl is going to benefit from the kind of flawless management that put her on the map in the first place. It seems in the model-marketing sweepstakes, ” Made In New York” still carries major weight.

Women New York City Spring/Summer 2011 Show Package on models.com

Women Spring/Summer 2011 Show Package
Art Direction: Jason Duzansky
Print Production: Ryan Nelson
From Models.com, written by Wayne Sterling:

What do you do when your show packages have become so influential, the competition starts to copy you? You remind said competition that they have not convened a board comparable to the beautifully managed models of Women Management . Then you switch up the formatting of your presentation with the kind of high taste that puts amateurs to shame. The concept of the Women show package as part of an on-going series of collector’s items, is still very much in play. Jason Duzansky’s art direction this season moves the box into seriously sophisticated territory by offering the object in a beautiful fetish pink suede. The twisted femininity of that is a very witty fashion in-joke, as the kind of knowing woman who would source such an object, shows up in the suite of cards (again echoing that off shade of pink sashed with the signature olive green that has become a Women trademark) . And just when you got used to a four panel show card, Women SS11 one-ups the structural challenge by offering a six panel card. As a result marquee Women names like Natasha, Iris, Maria Carla, Jamie, Isabeli and Iselin are presented in a perfectly selected series of images that makes an extravaganza of the girl’s editorial profile. To view Jourdan Dunn’s card is to be dazzled by a retinue of stunning images that reminds us this girls is basically inimitable. That is the function of a great show package, to amplify the value of the model in question and Women has clearly become a master of this feat. The other audacious feat is the great care with which this agency introduces its new faces. They number six for SS11 and girls like Kristina , Alejandra and Anabelle are already looking like a part of that formidable tradition at Women where the girls are women, upscale, burnished and polished. For mastery of production values , for its modernization of all that Old School glamour and most of all for the consistency of line of its imagery this Women show package does more than continues a tradition. It makes the best statement about taste and quality of any show package so far this season. Louie Chaban in his understated way has just issued a declaration about the power of innovation tempered by elegance that is going keep these models ultra-coveted.

Matt Holloway: Live from Coachella on Models.com

Women's own Matt Holloway shared his personal snaps from the Coachella Music Festival with Models.com:

Music is the first order of business at the Coachella but fashion has invaded the indie music festival: there are enough models, designers and fashionistas at this years fest to make a mini-fashion week. Women Management agent Matt Holloway took the time out to share some of his from the field images especially for MDC; you’ll spot a few familiar fashion favorites, a lot of that cool laid back style the festival is becoming known for and even a movie star or two.

Global Action for Children - Saturday March 20 at Milk Gallery

Original artwork by Andy Ness, made of fabric and other materials.

Interview with Betty Sze of models.com and Julia Samersova of Global Action For Children:

We chatted with casting director Julia Samersova about her big Global Action for Children event coming up for Saturday, March 20th. With Angelina Jolie as the honorary chairperson of GAC and the event hosted by Mary Alice Stephenson and Milk Studios, GAC is definitely the charity to keep your eye on. While Angelina won’t be there expect some of the industry’s heavy hitters to come and experience the special events planned for their little ones.

What is Global Action for Children?
Global Action for Children generates awareness, policies and funding so every child has the chance to grow up safe and healthy.

What are your main goals for Saturday’s event?
The main goal is to raise awareness and money for GAC, and to have an amazing time doing it! All of the decor, activities and games have been created to entertain, educate, and inspire the children at a level that can only be describe as AWESOME.

There are quite a few models who are activists (Natalia Vodianova, Liya Kebede, Christy Turlington etc) as well as mothers. Why do you think becoming a mother changes them? Why do think it’s important for these models to become “role” models?

Motherhood puts life into a different perspective and allows you to view and deal with life’s challenges in a brand new way. Patience is the key ingredient in parenthood and in an industry such as fashion, it can certainly come as a refreshing change of pace. These Supermodel Mommies have an amazing platform to speak out on the behalf of a whole range of causes. It’s an amazing position these women are in: very powerful and used properly, very helpful to those who have no voice in this world.

Since becoming a mother a year and a half ago, what has changed about the fashion industry for you?
What has changed is my perception of what is truly an “emergency” versus a “fashion emergency”! It has been amazing to learn to be this “other” person. After a long hard day of work, I am fortunate enough to go home to this little creature and really get my priorities in order. It is a very difficult balance to strike, being a working woman in a demanding industry and a mother and a wife. I have a lot more patience now and that is a good thing

Daniel Peddle "Backstage" opening reception March 16, 2010

Tuesday March 16
Daniel Peddle “Backstage”
Envoy Enterprises
131 Chrystie Street
Between Delancey and Broome
6-8PM

Interview with Betty Sze: from models.com:

It’s no secret we’re big fans of casting director Daniel Peddle as are some of the biggest clients in the industry. His upcoming show, “Backstage” is reviewed in the latest V Magazine and feature some familiar faces seen in a way not ordinarily viewed. We caught up with Daniel to ask him 3 questions.

MDC: What have you discovered in 8 seasons capturing backstage through this medium?
DP: I started this series in 2006. Backstage is a fascinating ritual to observe, sometimes more so than the fleeting few moments of the actual show. It has been really interesting to try and capture in a painting the role of the model, the center of this flurry of activity.

MDC: Are you ever interested in doing a different medium and if not, why do you prefer watercolors?
It is really not about the paint for me so much as the water!!! We cannot control water, we can only pretend to… I like the challenge of working in such a fluid medium as the work takes on a life of its own. Everything else can be a sticky affair but watercolor is pure to me.

MDC: What are your paints and papers of choice?
Found paper is my favorite! I also like to work off a roll rather than sheets. You have more freedom. As far as the paints go basically I like whatever is on sale in the grab bin!!! For me much of the process of creating art is about embracing accident and chance.
